FAQ

We here hope to address any questions you may have about our service. If you have a question that is not addressed here, then feel free to send us an email with your question and we will answer you as soon as we can. You can also use our forum if you prefer.

  • How good are the keywords you will suggest?
This question requires a 2-part answer as it depends on what you mean by the question:

    1. the list of keywords we will provide you with are taken from a number of Meta Search Engines that allow us to obtain details on what keywords are in demand and how much demand each has. Google, for example, does not really allow folks to have that sort of information, but Overture does. We will therefore be obtaining the relevant information for keywords from a number of Meta Search Engines that allow us to have that information,

    2. the keywords we will suggest will not all be relevant for your web site as not all keywords we will suggest will be relevant for the theme of your site. Also, be aware that not all keywords will be in sufficient demand for you to want to target them,

  • Will you really provide me with 100 keywords?
We will provide you with up to 100 keywords, if we can. As you can gather, some keywords are in more demand than others and therefore have more suggestions. At the time of writing this, a keyword search for:
    • 'seo' provided us with 200 keywords suggestions (see our sample report),
    • 'web site' gave us 1000 keywords suggestions,
    • 'search engine' gave us 625 keywords suggestions,
    • 'search engine optimisation' gave us 31 keywords suggestions,
    • 'search engine optimization' gave us 93 keywords suggestions.

As you can see, the number of keywords suggestions we can provide you with really depends on how much demand there is for the type of keywords you are after.

Also, in order to help you select the right keywords for your web site, we will not refer to you keywords that have too little demand or that have too much supply. We feel that it is better for us to provide you with a 100 potential great keywords than to provide you with a 1000 keywords, most of which you will have to discard because they have too little demand or too much supply. It is easier to work from a list of a potential suitable 100 keywords than it is from 1000 that contains inappropriate keywords of one kind or another.

A word of caution: do not be concerned that some keywords, such as 'search engine optimisation', only provide a small number of keywords suggestions. The reason for this is:

    • you can only effectively optimize a web page for 4 keywords. This means that you will only really be wanting to select the best 4 keywords from the list we will provide you with,

    • if we do provide you with 100 keywords suggestions, there is the possibility that the majority of those keywords will have to be discarded because they will not fit 100% with the theme of your site. Have a look at our sample report to see what we mean (we used 'seo' as our keyword seed in that report).

So, it is not a matter of how many keywords we can suggest, but whether you can find 4 ideal keywords from the list of suggestions we will provide you. And this we cannot guarantee ahead of time as it depends on the 'keyword seed' you provide us with in your order for us to initiate the keywords research for you.

  • Can you explain the ideas of 'demand' and 'supply' or 'competition'?
These are 2 crucial terms towards understanding the keywords report we will send you, and towards you deciding which keywords you will want to select to target with your site. We shall use the following sample report to help you understand the 2 terms:

    • demand: this refers to how many times a day a keyword has been used in search engines around the world. For example, at the time of writing this, the keyword 'seo' had a daily world wide demand of 18,401, while the keyword 'seo company' had a daily world wide demand of 5,017. At first glance, the keyword 'seo' looks like a better keyword to target,

    • supply/competition: this refers to how many web sites are targeting that keyword. There are several ways of doing this:

      • consider how many pages contain that keyword, as reported by Google, Yahoo or MSN. This number turns out to be 187 million for the keyword 'seo' and around 49 million for 'seo company' as reported by Google. The keyword 'seo' should be seen as having a HUGE competition as, should you target that keyword, then you are competing, in simple terms, against 187 million web pages,

      • consider how many page titles contain that keyword, as reported by Google, Yahoo or MSN. This is considered by some as a better measure of competition as people who will target that keyword will generally include it in the title of a web page. In our case of 'seo', that number is around 9.9 million pages. And for 'seo company', that number is 81,700.

Putting this information in table form, which makes it easier to compare the numbers, we then get.

    Keyword

    Demand

    Pages with Keyword

    Page Titles with Keyword

    seo

    18,401

    187,000,000

    9,890,000

    seo company

    5,017

    48,600,000

    81,700

It is with this information that you will need to decide which keyword is the better one: 'seo' or 'seo company', assuming of course that both keywords are equally highly relevant for the theme of your web site. We would suggest that 'seo company' is the better keyword for the following reason: it would be easier to gain a percentage of the 5017 demand than it would be of the 18401 demand because the 5017 demand comes with considerably less competition. We would also recommend 'seo company' because it can be argued that people serious about targeting a keyword will add it to their page titles. And a competition of 81,700 is better than 9,890,000!

  • Your sample reports also contains 'Links to #1' and 'Links to #2'. Can I use this information to help me decide on the best keywords for my site?
Yes you can, but only as a secondary way as sometimes this information will not help. These 2 columns refer to many backlinks the top 2 web sites have as reported by Google, Yahoo or MSN. In our sample report, the numbers are as follows as reported by Google:

PR#1

PR#2

seo

7,050

seo company

447

1,040

You will notice that the second top ranking site for 'seo company' has more backlinks than the first one and yet it ranks second. The reason for this is that Google doesn't just look at the number of backlinks but also at things such as: what is the PR of the web site where the backlink exists? what is the text on the backlink? how many links are there on the page that contains the backlink? is the site that contains the backlink listed at Google? does the site that contains the backlink have a theme that complements the site it backlinks to? and so on . . .

Looking at the 2 keywords above, we would conclude that:

    • it will take a lot of hard work to obtain top position for either 'seo' or 'seo company' with Google as Google places a lot of importance on quality backlinks,

    • given that the 2 top sites for 'seo' and 'seo company' at Google share almost the same ranking, we would still choose 'seo company' as a better keyword because it has less competition as explained above.

Look at the data for the keyword 'seo training' below and you will be able to appreciate that it is the better keyword out of 'seo', 'seo company' and 'seo training' because it is a keyword in reasonable demand with relatively low competition (looking at the 'Page Titles with Keyword' number), + the two top sites have a PR of 4-5 (and a PR 4 is much easier to obtain than one of 6).

  • Can you explain the 'keyword seed' idea?
To research keywords, you always need to start with a 'keyword seed' ie. a 1-word or 2-word phrase that you want your keywords to contain. For example, when we looked at keywords for us to use at Google Adwords and Overture PPC for this site, we did a keyword research using 'keyword' as our 'keyword seed' (sample report). We then ended up with a number of suggestions which we reduced to 26 as possible good keywords to target. We then noticed that all those keywords, except for 2, had Overture PPC bids of less than $1.00 and 21 of those keywords had Overture PPC bids of less than $0.50. This provided us with quite a good number of keywords to target with PPC's. You can see this from our second sample report.

You should now see that when you place your order with us, you will need to think very carefully about what 1-word or 2-word phrase you want us to use to conduct our research. This phrase will need to be highly relevant to the theme of your site or web page.

  • How does your service compare to Overture or Wordtracker?
Our service is comparable to Overture and Wordtracker except that we offer much more than they do:
    • the Overture keywords tool only provides you with keywords suggestions with their corresponding demand numbers. Overture also does not deal with plurals and sometimes swaps words around to give you suggestions such as 'optimisation engine search',

    • Wordtracker (the free version) likewise only provides you with keywords suggestions together with their corresponding numbers.

We will provide you with these and lots more. For each keyword suggestions (which includes the exact keyword phrase + possible plurals), we also tell you (as you can see in our sample report):

    • how many web pages contain that keyword according to Google, Yahoo or MSN,

    • how many web page titles contain that keyword according to Google, Yahoo or MSN,

    • the number of backlinks reported by Google, Yahoo or MSN for the 2 top ranking sites that target that keyword,

    • the Alexa ranking and the Google Page Rank for the 2 top ranking sites that target that keyword,

    • the 2 highest bids for that keyword as reported by Overture PPC.

This additional information we provide for each keyword suggestion is vital to help you decide which keyword you will want to target with your web site. See the next question.

  • How do I go about selecting the right keywords for my site from the list of keywords you provide?
Once you have our list of keywords, you will need to go through a process to determine which keywords are the best for your site and which ones you can safely ignore. We would suggest the following process:

    1. rule out all the keywords that do not have enough demand. Our report will list the keywords in order of demand (from those in most demand to those with the least demand). In order to do this, you will need to decide how much demand is too little. We cannot do this for you as it is something that you will need to decide for yourself,

    2. from the remaining list, rule out keywords that have too high for the number of web page titles that contain that keyword. Again, you will need to decide what that number is for yourself, although we would suggest anything above 100,000 as being too high,

    3. from the remaining list, rule out any keywords that are not relevant to the theme of your site. Keywords should always be 100% relevant to what your site is about. Avoid the mistake of selecting keywords that are 'kinda' relevant to your site. You must select keywords that are totally relevant and as specific as possible to the theme of your site.

    4. from the remaining list, pick out the very best 4 keywords.

Through this process, you will have selected 4 keywords that are in high demand, that have low competition and that are highly relevant to your site.

  • Once I have selected the keywords I want to target with my site from the list of keywords you gave me, what do I do with them?
You will need to make good use of those keywords on your page. We cannot go into details here as to exactly what to do with those keywords as it is an involved process. As part of your order, we will tell you where you can download an excellent free ebook that will tell you in practical steps where you are to locate your keywords in order to have your page optimized for Google. And don't worry that the ebook is about optimizing your site for Google as the process it gives you is valid for search engines in general. So, if you go through the ebook using the right selection of keywords (from the list we will give you), you will end up with an optimized search engine friendly page(s).

  • Can I use the keywords you suggest for PPC's (PPC stands for Pay-Per-Click)?
You can indeed but only as a guide. The reason for this is that when you use PPC for a search engine, then the keywords demand for that particular search engine will vary from the keywords demand for another search engine. For example, both Google and Overture offer PPC. But the keywords demand for each will vary because the people who use Google are different to the people who use Overture. The technical term for this is: different demographics. So, the keywords we provide you with are not necessarily keywords that are going to be in demand specifically at Google, or at Overture, or . . . But they are keywords that are in demand in a variety of search engines around the world. Consequently, the keywords we provide you with can be used as a guide for PPC.

  • What do the sample reports display the header 'Cattle Ramp SEO Resources'?
The reason for this is rather simple. We have a number of sister web sites that offer SEO services (this site being one of them), with our main/mother web site being 'Cattle Ramp SEO Resources'. Consequently, we process all our sister web sites' SEO services under the 'Cattle Ramp SEO Resources' header. This is why all our sample reports have that header.

  • How safe is PayPal?
    Judge for yourself:
    • PayPal is a financial transaction service that has more than 40 million member accounts world wide,

    • PayPal is now owned by eBay,

    • we have been using PayPal for a number of years now and have been very happy with it.

It can therefore be concluded that PayPal has taken all the necessary steps to ensure that all online financial transactions are handled securely.

  • Once I have clicked on the PayPal button to place my order, how do I know that I have reached a secure page?
After clicking on the PayPal button, there are 2 things that you can check to make sure that you have indeed reached the secure PayPal page:

    1. the URL should start with "https" (the 's' at the end of the 'https' means that you have reached a secure page), and

    2. your browser should display a locked padlock in its status bar (usually located at the bottom of the browser).

Both of these things will indicate to you that you have indeed reached the secure PayPal page and that it is safe for you to make your payment.

  • The PayPal order page displays 'Cattle Ramp Software and Services' as your company name. Is that correct?
Yes it is, but only with PayPal. The reason for this is that we initially used PayPal to accept payments for software we sold online. We then decided to go into SEO work and thought of possibly expanding into other online areas. To reflect this, plus the fact that we only wanted to have the one account with PayPal, we altered our PayPal 'company name' to something that would incorporate all our online ventures. Hence the current 'Cattle Ramp Software and Services' PayPal company name.

  • Your PayPal email address is not what I would expect as it is an 'alphalink.com.au' email address. Should I be concerned?
Not at all. We have been using Alphalink as our ISP for a number of years and hence have an 'alphalink.com.au' email address. This address is the one we use with PayPal so as to be notified of all payments for all the online services we offer (see above question).
  • I don't want to use PayPal, can I place an order another way?
Absolutely! Send us an email with details of the payment method you prefer and we will see what we can do to accommodate your request.

  • Do you offer money back guarantee?
We would like to offer money back guarantee but sadly we can't. The reason for this is that once you have received our keywords research report, then we have fulfilled our order to you and you can then do whatever you want with the list of keywords we have found for you. This means that you can ask for a refund while still using our keywords report. Sadly, we find that if we make it possible for some people to take advantage of a 'loophole', then they will.
